Shopify or Shoopy? The honest comparison.

Both build serious online stores. One is priced for a global market; the other for how Indian shops actually run — GST, UPI, cash on delivery and WhatsApp included.

For an Indian store, Shopify starts at ₹17,988 a year plus 2% on each prepaid order on Basic; Shoopy starts at ₹2,499 a year with 0% on the first 250 orders — and never more than ₹5 an order after that.

The short version

Four numbers that change the answer.

₹2,499 vs ₹17,988Entry plan for a year — Shoopy against Shopify’s India pricing on annual billing.
₹5 vs no capThe most a Shoopy order fee can be. Shopify Basic takes 2% of every prepaid order, and nothing on cash on delivery or POS orders.
GST built inInvoices and reports on every Shoopy plan. On Shopify, GST tooling comes from paid apps.
Hindi and EnglishHuman support on WhatsApp. Shopify’s support is chat-first, in English.

The honest part

Two platforms. Two different buyers.

Choose Shopify if…

You sell to many countries in many currencies, you want its 8,000-app ecosystem, and the platform bill is small next to your margins. It is the global standard for a reason.

Choose Shoopy if…

You sell in India — GST invoices, UPI and cash on delivery, WhatsApp orders, a counter to bill at — and you want a yearly price you can predict instead of a percentage of every prepaid sale.

Illustrative example

Same sales. The bill depends on how customers pay.

A store doing 300 orders a month at an ₹800 average order — ₹28,80,000 in yearly sales — using the published rates above. Shopify charges its 2% only on prepaid orders, so the example shows three payment mixes.

Yearly platform cost: plan plus order fees. Gateway charges are not included.
Payment mixShopify BasicShoopy Professional
All prepaid₹17,988 plan + 2% of ₹28,80,000 (₹57,600) = ₹75,588₹5,499 plan + ₹15,500 in fees = ₹20,999
Half prepaid, half cash on delivery₹17,988 plan + 2% of ₹14,40,000 (₹28,800) = ₹46,788₹5,499 plan + ₹15,500 in fees = ₹20,999
All cash on delivery₹17,988 plan, no order fees = ₹17,988₹5,499 plan + ₹15,500 in fees = ₹20,999

Illustrative, from the July 2026 published rates. Shopify Basic charges 2% on orders paid through a third-party gateway such as Razorpay. Shopify’s help centre says manual payments (including cash on delivery and bank transfer) and POS orders carry no transaction fee. Shoopy Professional includes 500 orders a year at 0%, then charges 0.8% capped at ₹5 (the cap applies above ₹625): 3,100 orders × ₹5. This example counts Shoopy’s fee on every order, prepaid or cash on delivery. Gateway charges apply to prepaid orders on both platforms and go to the gateway.

What sellers say after moving.

“WhatsApp finally talks to the store. We ran WhatsApp on one tool, GST invoices on another, and the store somewhere else. On Shoopy the official WhatsApp integration and GST billing are just part of the product.”

Frequently asked questions

Everything sellers ask about Shopify vs Shoopy.

How much does Shopify cost in India in 2026?

Shopify’s India pricing starts at ₹17,988 a year on annual billing for the Basic plan, plus a 2% fee on each prepaid order, as of July 2026. Cash on delivery and POS orders carry no Shopify fee. Apps for GST invoicing and WhatsApp are extra.

Why does Shopify charge a transaction fee on Indian stores?

Shopify charges its fee when a customer pays through a third-party gateway, and Shopify Payments is not available to Indian stores. So on Basic, each prepaid order pays 2% on top of the gateway’s own charges. Manual payments such as cash on delivery and bank transfer, and POS orders, carry no Shopify fee.

What does Shoopy cost, and is there a per-order fee?

Plans run ₹2,499 to ₹12,999 a year. Every plan includes 250–2,000 fee-free orders a year; past that the fee is 0.3–1% by plan, capped at ₹5 an order.

Can I keep my domain if I move from Shopify?

Yes. Connect the domain you own and HTTPS is set up for you. Your domain stays registered in your name.
